Cam Newton has become a hot news item as of late, sometimes for good reasons, other times for some less than pleasant ones. For Candace and Damon, though, Newton might be one of the most inspiring individuals in sports today. While he might not be the most attractive of NFL betting picks at the moment, his work for the poor is quickly transforming his reputation.

Candace Gregory and her husband came upon Newton while taking a stroll after dinner. Cam was in town for the preseason opening game against the ravens (to be played the following night).

They encountered the Carolina Panthers Quarterback around the inner Harbor of Baltimore on Wednesday night as he was making a very unexpected gesture. As Newton and a couple of his teammates left dinner at Sullivans, he was spotted carrying bags of food; these were full meals, not leftovers.

Candace and Damon had the privilege of watching Newton hand the first bag to a homeless man sitting beside a bus stop. Sufficing to say, Candace had come to form an opinion of Newton based on the personality he portrayed in the media as well as the comments that were commonly made about his style and attitude.

The Quarterback’s actions on that night completely transformed that opinion, and that wasn’t even the first time Candace had witnessed Newton’s generous side. She once saw him give something to a disabled child at a practice game and, like many people, Candace was quick to dismiss the action as a photo opportunity.

On that Wednesday night, though, there was no one looking, no cameras to impress. This was Newton reaching out in sincerity. According to Joe Webb (backup quarterback), such acts of generosity have been commonplace ever since Newton was first drafted.

According to Webb, not only does Newton always order a meal to go if he knows that someone near the restaurant is hungry, but he will also plan outings with the express purpose of giving food to the homeless.

Webb will sometimes accompany Newton on these outings, and he isn’t the only one to witness Newton’s generosity. Brenton Bersin (Wide Receiver) has also had the opportunity of watching Newton make some homeless people very happy, and this isn’t even taking into account all the money he gives to them.

Candace and her husband made no attempt to approach the NFL star and his teammates; they did talk to the homeless man, though, and apparently, he had no idea who Cam Newton was.

For him, simply having a hot meal was all that mattered. And considering the quantities of food the man was eating, it was obvious that Newton had ordered the meal specifically to give away.

Candace was especially taken by Newton’s determination to avoid the limelight. Apparently, Newton waited until no one was watching before sliding over, giving the homeless man the bag and immediately moving on.

There was no attempt to linger, not even to talk to the man. Candace took pictures of the moment, though, sharing them with a friend and panthers fan that spread them all over Instagram.

Newton continues to amaze and touch hearts all over the country.
