L: Euclides Leyer (0-2)

SALEM, Va. (May 20, 2016) – Despite another strong performance from starter Spencer Adams, Salem used a late rally against the Dash bullpen to scoot past Winston 6-4 on Friday night at LewisGale Field.

Adams, who is rated the third-best prospect in the White Sox organization by Baseball America and MLB.com, went seven innings and allowed six hits and two runs (only one earned). The 20-year old also struck out five batters.

The Dash led 4-2 in the eighth, but the game soon unraveled. Right-hander Euclides Leyer (0-2) started the frame and walked four batters in two-thirds of an inning, the last of which made it a 4-3 contest. Colin Kleven relieved Leyer with the bases loaded and two outs and allowed a bloop two-run single to Ben Moore, giving the Red Sox a 5-4 edge.

After a hit by pitch to load the bases, Salem added their last tally on a Toby Thomas error to go up 6-4. Mario Alcantara (4-0), who threw 3.1 scoreless innings in relief, closed the door with a 1-2-3 ninth.

Winston-Salem is now 1-3 during their current road trip.

After being held hitless through the first two innings, Salem went to work with two outs in the third. Yoan Moncada and Mauricio Dubon smacked back-to-back double to give Salem an early 1-0 edge. During the next at-bat, Adams made a wild throw to third on a steal attempt by Dubon, allowing him to score and make it 2-0.

The Dash would strike back though in the next inning. With one on and one out, Gerson Montilla crushed a two-run home run to left off Salem starter Jalen Beeks to tie the game at two. Montilla now has 14 RBIs in his last eight contests.

In the following frame, Winston-Salem took their first lead. With Brett Austin on third with one out, Cleuluis Rondon stroked an RBI single to right to put the Dash ahead 3-2.

Winston-Salem added their final tally in the sixth. With the bases loaded and one out, Toby Thomas drove in Montilla on a sacrifice fly to make it 4-2. Beeks ended his night throwing 5.2 innings and allowing four earned runs.

Keon Barnum extended his hitting streak to eight games with his second consecutive 2-for-4 performance.
